This lovely, turtle pillow features a hand dyed pillow cover done shirbori style, done by folding the fabric over and over, then dunking into various colors of dye. It sets for at least 24 hours before I unwind it. Then I wash in a solution to wash out the excess-- and then heat set the dyes.
It really isn't until the fabric is unfolded that I decide what to do with it. In this case, I saw the ocean.
So I then applied the turtle image, added a shiny turtle and sea weed, then the hand and machine decorative stitches.
This is an 18 x 18" pillow with insert. It is complete and ready for giving.
This is a true one of a kind item that is hand dyed, couched and hand embroidered. There will not be another like it. The back is natural osnaburg. It compliments some of the natural yarns in the front.

Tell me about osnaburg
I love using osnaburg fabric. Its a natural heavily woven cotton. It has a nice texture that many compare to linen or burlap. Many of my designs are very dense, and it takes the stitches better than a flat fabric. Sometimes there is a random thread that doesn't take the color or bleach.Just like you'd see in linen or burlap. There aren't a lot of them, sometimes we won't see one in a project, other times you'll get one or two. They are super small, visualize a single thread woven in about an inch of the fabric. The fabric may also have a slub, this is not a snag, with a hole as if you snagged a sweater. Nature doesn't create cotton uniformly and most embrace the organic look. Neither are flaws.
